Apply for the Global Ambassador Program at the University of Mississippi

The purpose of the Global Ambassador program is to pair visiting international exchange and intensive English students with American students at the University of Mississippi in order to foster understanding and more open communication between these two groups.

Global Ambassadors are representatives of the University of Mississippi who help international exchange or intensive English students acclimate to life in Oxford. They do so by inviting them to social events and campus activities and introducing them to Ole Miss college traditions such as Groving, pep rallies, Greek life, and local arts. Each Global Ambassador will assist a group of two or three exchange students and will be paired with the group based on common interests and majors. International exchange and intensive English students come from universities across the globe: China, France, Ireland, South Korea, Australia, Germany, and Egypt… just to name a few.

If you are a current University of Mississippi student who is interested in getting to know people from across the world and would like to learn about other cultures while helping visiting international students integrate into the Oxford and Ole Miss Community throughout the semester, then this program is right for you!

Global Ambassadors must have a 2.5 GPA or higher. You will be asked to upload your most recent transcript within the application.  A letter of recommendation is required for new applicants to apply.  Please submit the recommendation letter via email to umgap@olemiss.edu, in the mail, or drop off the letter to the Study Abroad Office in 318 Martindale Hall. Once accepted, Global Ambassadors must attend the Global Ambassadors Orientation with the Study Abroad Office. *If you are a returning global ambassador, you do not need a letter of recommendation. Please fill out the online application and upload your most recent transcript.  Expectations:

  • Email international partners prior to their arrival to introduce yourself as a mentor and friend.
  • Attend the Welcome Dinner and Farewell Dinner during the semester
  • Initiate and maintain personal contact with your partners throughout the semester
  • Invite students to join you in campus and community activities throughout the semester
