AmeriCorps Opportunities with Impact Alabama

Croft alumna Kendra Wright (B.A. 2014) invites Croft seniors and graduates to consider the AmeriCorps program, whether at Impact Alabama / Impact America or at one of the thousands of other placements available.  For more information and to apply visit the Impact America application or the AmeriCorps website.

Many Croft graduates have worked with AmeriCorps, a federal program that provides funds for nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups to increase their capacity to serve.  A large number have worked with the North Mississippi VISTA project here at the University of Mississippi and in the surrounding area.  Kendra works through AmeriCorps as a regional coordinator for Impact Alabama/Impact America in Birmingham.  She has a number of different roles, including serving as a debate coach for a middle school and an IRS-certified tax preparer.  AmeriCorps positions are focused on capacity development: creating new programs and increasing the efficiency of existing ones, finding new sources of funds, and reaching out to new volunteers and clients, in addition to providing direct service.  Consequently they are a great way for recent graduates or anyone else looking for a fresh start to get useful experience while doing something meaningful.
